About the Journal

The African Journal of Women and Gender in Development (TAJWAGID) is a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary journal committed to advancing African-centred scholarship on women, gender and development. The journal examines the complex intersections of gender, diversity, equality, sexuality and power. It provides a platform for rigorous research, critical debate and praxis-oriented analysis centred on African women’s lived realities, knowledge systems and agency.

The journal interrogates the gendered dimensions of development across the continent, challenges dominant paradigms and foregrounds African feminist and indigenous epistemologies. It welcomes work that bridges theory and practice by connecting academic inquiry with policy, advocacy and community transformation. TAJWAGID seeks to move beyond documenting challenges to illuminate African women’s innovations, leadership and contributions to equitable and sustainable development.

TAJWAGID invites scholars, researchers, postgraduate candidates, practitioners, policymakers and advocates to submit original, rigorous and socially relevant scholarship for consideration in its 2026 publication cycle. Contributions should deepen understanding of how gender shapes social, cultural, political and economic life in Africa and its global intersections, while advancing evidence, theory, policy and practice.

Submissions should be analytical, informative, ethically grounded and socially transformative. Manuscripts may adopt disciplinary, interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary perspectives and may focus on a single country, compare African contexts, examine regional or diasporic dynamics, or connect African cases to wider global debates.

Priority: The journal particularly values original work that centres African voices, demonstrates contextual depth, makes a clear scholarly contribution and identifies implications for policy, professional practice, advocacy or community action.
